Martin Padaway was a smart enough young man, with a scientific education, but no universal genius. He had the misfortune to be suddenly dropped back into time, and a very alarming time at that-sixth century Rome, when the Goths ruled Italy, and civilization in the west was collapsing. To make a living, and to try and shore up civilization, Padaway undertook to introduce inventions such as gunpowder, clocks, and printing. Some worked and some didn't, often with dramatic and hilarious results. A time-traveling adventure by a master of the genre. Mass market paperback. No stated publishing history so presumed first edition, first printing thus. Publisher book number F-817, cover price $0.40. This is a used book. Pages are clean and bright with no markings, notes, or highlighting. Since this book is from 1963, there is some age browning on inside covers and top and bottom of text block which does not affect readability. Page edges show light foxing. Covers show only minor shelf wear and are not creased. Tiny tear at bottom of spine. Faint soiling to the white background field of the rear panel. Previous owner's stamped on inside front endpaper, not ex-library. Binding is tight and square. Hinges are firm. Price sticker on front cover. Corners not bumped.…

We guarantee the condition of every book as it's described on the AbeBooks web sites. If you're dissatisfied with your purchase (Incorrect Book/Not as Described/Damaged) or if the order hasn't arrived, you're eligible for a refund within 30 days of the estimated delivery date. If you've changed your mind about a book that you've ordered, please use the Ask bookseller a question link to contact us and we'll respond within 2 business days. This does not affect your statutory consumer rights including the right to withdraw from the contract and your statutory warranty rights.

Shipping terms
Shipping to US addresses is free; books are sent via US Postal Service. Please note that packages shipped this method can take up to four weeks to arrive. Upon request we will ship USPS Priority rate or Fed Ex for $7.00 for the first book and $1.50 for each additional title shipped at the same time. All books mailed with care and in most cases will include automatic delivery confirmation for tracking ability where available. International customers charged at cost. If your book order is heavy or oversized, we may contact you to let you know extra shipping is required. Buyer pays shipping costs.
