The Murray-Darling Carpet Python (Morelia spilota metcalfei) is a native python found across Southeastern Australia. Once considered common in South Australia, the Murray-Darling Carpet Python is now regarded as rare in the Murraylands and Riverland region due to land clearance, habitat fragmentation, foxes, illegal poaching, and removal of fallen hollow logs and ground cover.
