H� 150 anos, mais precisamente em 24 de novembro de 1859, Darwin deu a conhecer um novo paradigma da hist�ria natural atrav�s da publica��o A Origem das Esp�cies. Como a epistemologia j� constatou, a teoria darwiniana da descend�ncia com modifica��es ou teoria da selec��o natural levou cerca de 20 anos a ser constru�da, ou seja, entre 1837 e 1859, grosso modo. Os 150 anos de hist�ria do darwinismo e da evolu��o apresentam a fecundidade da teoria da selec��o natural, tanto no plano das ci�ncias da vida e do homem como no plano das culturas. Tal como em quase todo o mundo, tamb�m em Portugal a rece��o de Darwin iniciou-se nos anos 60 do s�culo XIX, apresentando novidades surpreendentes, atendendo � escala portuguesa. Em 2009 o Grupo de Hist�ria e Sociologia da Ci�ncia do Centro de Estudos Interdisciplinares do S�culo XX da Universidade de Coimbra organizou o Encontro Internacional “Darwin, Darwinismos, Evolu��o (1859-2009)”. Esta reuni�o cient�fica pretendeu ser um espa�o de discuss�o aberto a todos os interessados neste tema, tanto no plano nacional como internacional. Os textos agora publicados constituem uma colet�nea de muitos textos ampliados e que serviram de base �s comunica��es apresentadas.
