Data Schmatta: The Andrew Principles

In this book for educators and administrators, unlock an integrated, research-supported vision for American education that offers systemic principles for reaching every learner, regardless of zip code.

American educators, politicians, and psychometricians have spent decades and billions of dollars to craft a system that results in a well-educated society. They failed. In a nation filled with varied cultures, immigration statuses, income levels, resources, and cognitive abilities, is there just too much diversity to keep millions of students from slipping through the cracks?

As an educator, Dr. Eric Dion Andrew has seen every level of the industry from paraprofessional and classroom work to campus administration and leadership at the superintendent level. Across ages and demographics, districts and communities filled with students of diverse backgrounds and intellectual skillsets, there has been one constant in his philosophy: We can make education work for every child.

Data Schmatta: It's the Relationships that Matta is a book about that vision-a vision for an education system that helps every individual student, teacher, and leader find their unique gifts. While the reliance on data-based metrics has had its uses, Dr. Andrew believes we have lost an intuitive understanding of people that would allow us to curate teaching approaches to the individual-and this book teaches us how to get it back, without sacrificing the accountability that healthy tracking measurements provide.

With definitive steps toward reducing the learning gap while increasing rigor, Data Schmatta shows how promising results can be when educators and communities embrace an integrated, all-inclusive system with metrics that effectively monitor progress. This surgically intentional strategy offers real solutions that educators won't want to miss.
