David's Messiah: Did David Know He Was Writing About the Messiah?

Did David know he was writing about the Messiah?

The New Testament repeatedly uses the Psalms to explain Jesus’ suffering, resurrection, exaltation, and future reign. But were the apostles giving David’s words a new meaning, or did David consciously understand that he was writing about the coming Messiah?

This short study traces the biblical expectation of Israel’s King from Genesis through the Psalms and into the New Testament. Special attention is given to Psalms 2, 16, 22, 41, 72, 89, and 110.

The book also addresses a second major question: Is Jesus sitting on David’s throne now? By examining the Davidic covenant, Acts 2, Luke 1, Hebrews, and Revelation, Brian C. Overholtzer argues that Christ’s present exaltation at the Father’s right hand guarantees rather than replaces His future Davidic reign.

Written for pastors, Bible students, and thoughtful Christians, this book offers an accessible introduction to the Messianic Psalms, the New Testament’s use of the Old Testament, and God’s continuing promises concerning Israel, Zion, and the nations.
