That Day in Dallas: Three Photographers Capture on Film the Day President Kennedy Died

Follow three professional photographers as they scramble to record the most dramatic and far-reaching news story of the last half of the 20th century. This new, color edition includes 18 color and 107 black & white full-image photographs of the Fort Worth morning activities, the reception at Love Field in Dallas, the motorcade and assassination scene, activity at Parkland Memorial Hospital, the casket arriving back at Air Force One, the swearing-in of Lyndon Johnson as President, activity in and around Dealey Plaza and the Texas School Book Depository following the assassination, activity at the Dallas Trade Mart, Dallas Sheriff and Dallas Police Departments, the showing of Oswald to the press, the Tippit funeral, and the December bail hearing of Jack Ruby.

Also included are the circumstances relating to several later controversial photographs taken by these three photographers, including the Johnson wink photo,; Oswald possibly seen in the Book Depository doorway at the time of the shooting, Ruby in Dealey Plaza at the time of the assassination, activity around the sewer cover in Dealey Plaza just after the shots were fired, and the possible discovery of a second assassin gun. Many of the photographs in this book had never been published before. Photographs also include scenes of Trauma Room Two, Oswald at Parkland Hospital following his shooting, the Impeach Earl Warren sign, and professional portraits of Rev. Oscar Huber, Marguerite Oswald, and Jack Ruby.

The skill of these three professional photographers and their ability to locate themselves at the right place at the right time allows us to experience in dramatic words and with on-the-spot pictures, one of the seminal events of the 20th century. Richard B. Trask is an archivist and historian who lives in a ca. 1681 house that he and his wife restored in Danvers, Massachusetts. Together they publish occasional books on history under the name YEOMAN PRESS.

Trask is an acknowledged expert on the 1692 Salem Witchcraft era, and has served as consultant and interviewee on numerous documentaries and television programs. He has written or co-written 12 books, including The Devil Hath Been Raised and Records of the Salem Witch-Hunt.

Trask's expertise in both historical photography and the assassination of President Kennedy has led to the writing of several books, including the seminal work Pictures of the Pain, and National Nightmare on Six Feet of Film.

Trask gave testimony several times before the Assassination Records Review Board, and served as a consultant to the Board, CBS News and the National Archives. His books on the President Kennedy assassination have won praise from such persons of divergent views including former President Gerald R. Ford, Josiah Thompson, Dan Rather, Harrison E. Livingstone, Vincent Bugliosi, Gary Mack, Richard Stolley, Jerr D. Rose, Dr. Kermit Hall, Robert B. Cuttler. and Roland J. Zavada.
