Catherine Lazers Bauer grew up in Marshall, Wisconsin, a village of 441 population. It was a place where “everybody knew your name,” and she echoes Thoreau’s sentiment, “I was born in the most favored spot on earth—and just in the nick of time.”

Bauer met her husband at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. They have one son and two daughters.

She taught Art and English at the elementary and high school level before she began writing in 1970. Thereafter, she taught writing classes through the University of Wisconsin Extension, Ohio State University—Lima, the University of Colorado—Denver, and the University of Denver—University College.

Bauer has sold over 550 essays, articles, and stories to more than 100 national, regional, and literary markets including Christian Science Monitor, Modern Maturity, Spiritual Life, Cooking Light, Science of Mind, Bloomsbury Review, and The Rotarian. For seven years she wrote a column, “The Inner Eye,” which appeared in Senior Spectrum Colorado until the demise of that newspaper in 1994. The column was nationally syndicated by Senior Wire.

Bauer co-authored a Colorado memoir (“50 Years on the High Line Canal”) with Eleanor Foley. She has judged several writing contests (including Utah Authors’ League, Colorado Pen Women, National Writers Association, and Colorado Authors’ League), and has made presentations at numerous writing workshops and conferences.

Eight of her essays have been included in anthologies, including a how-to on essay writing used in the textbook, “Thinking Through Your Writing Process” (McGraw Hill Ryerson Limited, 1989). One essay received an award after appearing in “The Greatest Gift Our Children Give to Us” (Simon and Schuster, 1997). Catherine Bauer’s short story, “Postmistress,” originally published in Wascana Review, is currently included in the Professional Writer’s Course offered by the National Writers Correspondence School.

Bauer writes from her home on North Turkey Creek in the beautiful foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Morriosn, CO, where she lives with her husband and periodically welcomes her children, grandchildren, and great-grand-children.
