Review
Jason Sinclair, believing he could control his life and his demons, lives in the jungle of Brazil running a coffee plantation. He does business with his cousin Derek ,in New Orleans, who operates that end of the Sinclair Coffee Company with the assistance of the able Miss Caroline Marshall. At first, Jason's communications with his cousin were strictly business, Derek would reply and Miss Marshall would post the letter. As Derek became more busy, he depended on Caroline to answer Jason's letters, and he would proof the reply, sign it and then she would post it. The letters from Jason became more personal, and Caroline began to answer his letters on her own. Jason, beleiving he had been communicating with his cousin, pours out his heart and soul, opening up his innermost thoughts and feelings. And then he asks Derek to find a wife for him and to send her to Brazil. He is very specific about the requirements, and type of woman he wants, and Caroline decides that she is the woman for Jason. They are married by proxy, and Caroline Marshall Sinclair leaves New Orleans to travel across the ocean and up the wild river and through the jungle of Brazil to meet and live with her husband, Jason Sinclair. Caroline's arrival commences the turmoil, the frustrations, the desires, the anger and the love that will be with them, and between them, from the moment she steps foot on the dock at his plantation. Jason fights with his inner, personal demons, and with Caroline, who has come as his salvation, to love him. But his struggle with himself is overpowering and he sees the only way to survive is to send her away. Caroline is stong, intelligent and determined. She will fight him, fight for him, fight the jungle, the pestilence and disease, defy the heat and defy Jason Sinclair. Caroline fell in love with this sensitive man, through his letters, and she loves him now. And despite all his efforts to discourage her, Caroline loses many of their battles, but in the end, sheknows she must win the war, or loose her husband forever. From This Day Forward is an exceptional book by Deborah Cox.
