In the forward, Reed offers readers a glimpse into what inspired her to begin writing poetry at the tender age of eight. Encouraged by a professor during her teenage years and inspired by many 19th and 20th century poets, she continued to develop her passion for writing poetry. Day Star features more than 50 new poems written since the publication of Reed's third book, Another Last Summer published in 2024. The collection also includes four short stories inspired by memories of her childhood. Now well into her nineties Reed continues to draw inspiration above all from nature and all it entails, family relationships, spirituality, current events and the changing seasons of life.
