DayZee Discovers her Purple Superpower

Meet DayZee!  In the sweeping grasslands of Malawi, a remarkable zebra is born with a colorful purple stripe at the back of her neck.

DayZee faces a rough and lonely introduction to the animal kingdom, braving suspicious young zebras and menacing predators. New to the vast African savannah, all she wants is to fit in. Will the other zebras come to trust what makes her unique and welcome her into their herd?

Malawi's panoramic plains, vibrant skies and scenic Lilongwe River shoreline provide a radiant backdrop that is visually alluring for children and families alike. Most books in this category choose a generic setting - an unnamed savannah, a tropical jungle. This book sets DayZee specifically in Malawi so young readers experience a genuine sense of place and can appreciate her yearning to belong.

DayZee's journey delivers a heartwarming metaphor of self-discovery, courage and the triumph of acceptance. Written for children ages 3 to 8, this timeless tale encourages young readers to embrace the unique qualities that also may be their greatest strengths.
