In the Days of My Father, General Grant (Paperback or Softback)

"In the Days of My Father, General Grant" offers an intimate and personal perspective on one of the most significant figures in American history. Written by Jesse R. Grant, the youngest son of General Ulysses S. Grant, this memoir provides a unique glimpse into the private life of the man who led the Union armies to victory and served as the eighteenth President of the United States. Unlike formal military biographies, this work focuses on the warmth and character of the elder Grant within the family circle, detailing the domestic life of the Grant household during and after the nation's most turbulent years.

The narrative spans from Jesse's early childhood memories during the Civil War to his father's celebrated post-presidential world tour. Through the eyes of a son, readers encounter General Grant not just as a stoic military leader or a statesman, but as a devoted father and husband. The book captures the nuances of Grant's personality, his integrity, and his quiet resilience. Jesse R. Grant chronicles the family's experiences at the White House and their travels abroad, providing historical insight into the social and political atmosphere of late nineteenth-century America. This work remains a vital document for those seeking to understand the human side of a legendary American hero.
