Between May 1981 and March 1982, Genene Jones, a nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of San Antonio's county hospital, injected more than 60 of her infant patients with deadly medicines, killing at least 30 children.  Dozens of supposedly responsible personnel became morally culpable for Jones's crimes through their failure to stop her.  The hospital solved the problem that Jones presented by discharging her with a favorable recommendation.  She moved on.

Six months later, after seven more emergencies and one fatality, Dr. Kathleen Holland -- Jones's new employer and long time friend -- risked her career, her reputation, and her future to put an end to Jones's campaign of death.

Deadly Medicine tells the story of these two women -- the first, a sharp, aggressive, highly effective nurse who developed a fatal addiction to the thrill of a "Code Blue" emergency; the second, a compassionate and somewhat innocent idealist who would be confronted with the knowledge that her friend was a murderer.
