Dealings With The Inquisition Or Papal Rome, Her Priests And Her Jesuits With Important Disclosures By The Rev. Giacinto Achilli — Giacinto Achilli is a firsthand account by the Italian reformer and former Dominican, recounting his imprisonment in the Roman Inquisition, his defense of biblical liberty, and his polemical critique of Papal Rome, its priests and Jesuits. The work traces his arrest in the late 1840s, confinement in the Inquisition's dungeons, and a dramatic escape aided by foreign intervention. It blends a personal memoir with broader historical critique of the Catholic hierarchy, including the Jesuits and Dominicans, and exposes the procedures, tortures, and conspiracies of the Roman penal system. Achilli also details his break with Rome, his conversion to Protestant Christianity, and his later efforts to promote religious reform in Italy, such as the emergence of the Italian Church in exile. Throughout, the narrative champions liberty of conscience, the supremacy of Scripture, and a reformist vision for Christianity in Italy and beyond.
