By the 1920s George White McDaniel was a household name among Virginia Baptists as well as Southern Baptists. In the course of his Virginia pastorate, he visited every one of the Virginia Baptist district associations except one. As stated in the church's official Memorial upon his death, "he was a man among the common people. As a brother to his fellow Baptists, he carried the helpful influence of the First Baptist Church (of Richmond) far and wide.".
