During the Lewis and Clark expedition along the Missouri River, the famed explorers named a tributary in honor of the secretary of war, Henry Dearborn. Today, Montana State Highway 287 traverses the Dearborn River without much ceremony. The ravages of time have consumed a once thriving settlement, except for its lone cemetery. Although the land rests quietly, it still remembers its pioneers and remains seeped with history.

From the author Rick Goff comes a historic western that follows courageous settlers who confront the challenges and dangers of life in the Montana Territory.

In 1875, an Ohioan farmer Rick Griffin arrives at the crossing area and meets his new neighbors the Joseph Lone Boy family, who befriend him. The mysterious murder of Joseph fills the family with sadness and a void. Rick assists the bereaving family. In doing so, the newcomer becomes smitten with Ruth Runs with the Wind, the beautiful twin daughter of the Lone Boys. Not to be out done, her twin, Mary Dancing, pursues the ranch ramrod, Justin Muller, and romance follows.

There is exciting activity, educational information, witty humor, and enjoyment throughout The Dearborn Yarn.

Rick Goff was born in Topeka, Kansas, in 1930. The author has experienced many of the actual scenes and researched others-including the historical site of his novel. Residing sixty-five years in Great Falls, Montana, has allowed him to hunt, fish, trap, and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.

Sergeant Goff's military career included an assignment to occupied Germany where he fell in love with a Polish national, Elizabeth Bordlowna. They married in 1951 and Rick's next duty station was the Great Falls Air Force Base. Rick and Elizabeth had two children, Michael and Christine. Rick's marriage ended after sixty-two years with the passing of Elizabeth in 2014.

Montana's splendor, its wealth of history, and the courageous pioneers inspired the author to write The Dearborn Yarn. Rick's first novel reminds you of an appreciation for the better lifestyle of today.
