This volume collects two macabre novellas by one of Israel's greatest authors: "The Death of Lysanda," which tells the story of a taxidermist heading steadily into insanity, and "Ants," about an invasion of household insects forcing a doomed marriage into crisis.

About the Authors

Yitzhak Orpaz was born to a Chassidic family in Zinkov, USSR, in 1923 and immigrated to pre-state Israel in 1938. Orpaz has published nine books of stories and novellas, six novels, a trilogy, a book of essays and a collection of poetry. He has received several literary awards, including the Bialik Prize (1986), the Prime Ministers Prize (2004), and the Israel Prize for Life Achievement (2005).

Richard Flint is a translator of Modern Hebrew. His most recent translation is M.Y. Berdichevsky's Miriam and Other Stories.
