Debates in Personalisation

This unique book brings together, for the first time, advocates and critics of the personalisation agenda in English social care services to debate key issues relating to personalisation.

Perspectives from service users, practitioners, academics and policy commentators come together to give an account of the practicalities and controversies associated with the implementation of personalised approaches. The conclusion examines how to make sense of the divergent accounts presented, asking if there is a value-based approach to person-centred care that all sides share.

Catherine Needham is Professor of Public Policy and Public Management at the University of Birmingham. She is based at the Health Services Management Centre, developing research around social care and new approaches to public service workforce development.

Jon Glasby is Professor of Health and Social Care and Head of the School of Social Policy, University of Birmingham. A qualified social worker by background, he has been a board member of the Social Care Institute for Excellence, is NHS Non-Executive Director and sits on the Board of Birmingham Children’s Trust.
