The Decameron of Boccaccio: The First Five Days is the opening volume of Giovanni Boccaccio's celebrated masterpiece, presenting the first fifty tales from one of the greatest story collections in world literature. Set during the Black Death of 1348, the work follows ten young Florentines who escape the plague by retreating to the countryside, where they pass the time by telling stories of love, wit, adventure, trickery, fortune, and human folly. Rich in humour, drama, romance, and social observation, these tales offer a vivid picture of medieval life while exploring timeless aspects of human nature. This Folio Society edition is especially admired for its handsome production and the beautiful aquatint illustrations by John Buckland-Wright.
