Giovanni Boccaccio's famous Decameron is a collection of short stories, told over a span of 10 days by 10 people who were secluded near Florence during the period of the Black Death. The series was completed about 1353. Translated (and with translator's note) from the Italian by Frances Winwar; includes detailed table of contents, preface and concluding note by the author. Complete and unabridged. Volume wrapped in red, black and blue jacket variant. NOTE: This Modern Library edition was preceded by an ML edition in the translation of John Payne. --- In Toledano spine 11 / rust cloth / ML hex torchbearer device blindstamped to front cover / gilt-stamped spine titling & torchbearer / tan Kent endpapers / jacket style l, verso is blank. Likely published c.1966 (though 1955 date appears in book). ML #71.4. --- An about-Near Fine copy with publisher/distributor rubberstampings to front free endpaper, otherwise unmarked, tightly-bound and sound.
