Henry VIII is king, and his queen is Anne Boleyn. Butthey are no longer in love, and with King Henry that means danger.
One of the king's advisors is our hero Richard. But he isalso attempting to uncover the mystery of three small female corpses, discovered in a state of mummified decay in the attic.
The mystery brings many surprises and when Queen Anne istried, declared guilty of treason, and is finally executed, England shakes inher shoes. The king is not popular but there is no one willing to topple thetyrant.
Richard is acting the detective, but he is also fallingin love. A further distraction is the fluttering bevy of someone else'smistresses, half undressed as they dance up Richard's stairs and invade hisbedchambers. But the woman he loves also loves them, and they hold the clues tothe murderer, whether they know it or not.
Writing this book, I grew to love my characters asalways, but I also grew to loathe Henry VIII. He was a man of his times, andthose times were very different, but he was still a tyrant of arrogant andchildish cruelty.
