Raised by a widowed grandmother and a single mom in Hong Kong, Maggie left her family and friends, and immigrated to New York City at the age of 14 to pursue her dreams of higher education. Maggie went on to rise through the ranks of iconic tech companies like ADIC, Sun Microsystems, Microsoft, Level 3 Communication, and SAP. As an Asian American woman, Maggie realized that her ascension to the C-suite in the tech industry was rare, but shouldn't be. At the height of her corporate career, Maggie saw the bigger challenge needed solving -- the lack of diversity at the top. That was the motivation behind founding her company Tenshey, whose mission is to advance diversity in the workplace by elevating diverse talent through executive and career coaching, and to infuse cultures of inclusion in companies through Tenshey's award-winning Women Sponsorship Programs.
Now as CEO of Tenshey and a Board of Director for Public and Private companies, Maggie is a fierce advocate for women and underrepresented minorities in leadership and in the Boardroom.
In Decoding Sponsorship, Maggie Chan Jones pulls back the curtain on the stories and lessons she learned in the journey to her career North Star as a CMO. She shares how Sponsorship played a significant role in her and others' careers, the inspiration for Tenshey's Women Sponsorship Programs, and the multiplier effect Sponsorship has on leadership pipelines, and cultures of belonging, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
In this book, you'll discover:
- The proven strategy behind discovering your Career North Star, and creating a Career Roadmap to get there
- The interlocking of your personal, professional, and financial goals and the necessary steps you need to take to achieve them.
- The secret power of Sponsorship and how to employ it to unlock career opportunities that you never dreamed were possible
- How Sponsors can help you get visibility, advocate for you and your work, and expand your network
- How to align your objectives with your manager and chain of command's business goals to deliver organizational successes.
- How to take calculated risks, recruit a support system, and cultivate your personal brand
- How to pay it forward and use Sponsorship to simultaneously advance top talent and help your company strengthen its leadership succession pipeline - while building your legacy
Don't be a passenger of your career waiting for someone to tap you on your shoulder. Rife with examples, stories, tools, and "on the ground" guidance, this book contains advice that you'll be able to to apply to your career immediately.
Based on Maggie's stories and decades of experience in the trenches of Fortune 500 Companies across the globe. you'll discover how Sponsorship can help define your next steps and put you in the driver's seat of your own career.
