Deep Prayer: Prayer that Pursues Intimacy with God

Are you tired of prayers that feel empty, routine, or unanswered?

You have read the Bible’s bold promises that God answers prayer. You have heard stories of how other Christians receive dramatic answers to prayer. Then you look at your own prayer life and wonder what’s wrong with you.
Deep Prayer offers a different path.

Steve Matteucci spent decades wrestling with the gap between the Bible’s teaching on prayer and his own experience. What he discovered changed everything: God did not design prayer so that we could get things from God. He designed prayer so that we could get more of God.

Using Jesus’ raw and vulnerable prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane as the model—and drawing from Job’s honest laments and the unfiltered emotions of the Psalms—Deep Prayer shows you how to move from shallow, transactional requests into deep, relational conversations with your Father.

In these pages you will learn:

• What make a prayer deep is not the answers you get or the language you use or what you pray for or even the answers you receive, but whether it draws you closer to God
• How the deepest prayer in the Bible—Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemane—is the model for deep, honest, authentic prayer
• How bringing your real emotions—doubt, fear, grief, pain, and longing—into your conversation with God is not a weakness but a necessity
• Why listening to God through Scripture is essential to deep prayer
• The surprising blessings that come even when God does not give you what you asked for

This is not another book of techniques or formulas. It is an invitation to the kind of prayer that transforms you from the inside out.

If you long for a prayer life that feels real, honest, and relational—one that pursues intimacy with God rather than pursuing your own agenda—Deep Prayer was written for you.
