Original publisher's beige paper pamphlet. Text printed in black ink. 4 3/4" x 7 1/2." Twelve pages, complete. Pages are loose but are very clean and intact overall except for light age toning and a few small marks to front and back. A Very Good copy. This is a counterargument by Samuel Swett that defends Colonel Timothy Pickering (1745-1829) and other contemporary figures following Bancroft's first history about the American Revolution in which he apparently maligned Pickering and General Israel Putnam (1718-1790). Swett makes his arguments against Bancroft while also defending the character and actions of Pickering and Putnam (the focus is on Pickering). Several events from the American Revolutionary War are referenced throughout as Swett's writings are a very specific and direct response to Bancroft's history. Among the events mentioned are the Battle of Lexington and the Battle of Bunker Hill.
