Item description from seller

Only edition. [ii], vi, 453, [6] pp. 8vo. Infant baptism was a heated debate in eighteenth-century Anglo-American theology. Clark entered a back-and-forth between Presbyterian minister Jonathan Dickinson of New Jersey and dissenting Baptist John Gill in London; Dickinson was in favor of infant baptism but Gill famously considered it an unbiblical "part and pillar of popery." ESTC W20116; Sabin 13350 (note) Contemporary calf, gilt rules to boards, gilt-edged raised bands and red morocco lettering piece to spine, blind tooling to board edges. Rubbing to exterior, front free endpaper attached. Light toning to interior, light foxing in a few places. Very good in a nice contemporary binding. Provenance: Nathaniel Bright (1752 owner inscription); John Bright (1817 owner inscription).…
