A Defence of Reveal'd Religion: Against the Exceptions of a Late Writer, in His Book, Intitled, Christianity as Old as the Creation, &C

A Defence Of Reveal'D Religion: Against The Exceptions Of A Late Writer, In His Book, Intitled, Christianity As Old As The Creation, &C by John Conybeare defends revealed religion against the claim that natural reason alone suffices for religious knowledge. The tract scrutinizes the law of nature, the nature and limits of natural religion, and the concept of obligation to God, arguing that the law of nature cannot be absolutely perfect, universal, or sufficient to encompass all moral duties without divine guidance. It defends the possibility and expediency of a divine revelation, including its role in enforcing moral duties, strengthening religious practice, and uniting worship. The work examines the evidences for revelation, distinguishing between internal and external revelation, and discusses miracles and prophecies as credentials. It also addresses the credibility of traditional revelation and the transmission of sacred texts, arguing that while human reason is essential, a revelation from God provides a richer, more certain framework for life, worship, and the public good.
