Michael McDowell has served as a Senator for the National University since 2016. He served as Tánaiste from 2006 to 2007, Minister for Justice and Law Reform from 2002 - 2007, leader of the progressive Democrats from 2006 - 2007 and Attorney General of Ireland from 1999 - 2002. For three different periods between 1987-2007, he served as TD for Dublin South-East.
