It is not intended that this booklet should take the place of textbooks on the subjects, but merely that it should be used as a small reference book, and to refresh the memory from time to time before the examinations. It includes, in addition to definitions and formulae, staff notation and absolute frequencies of notes, also the wavelengths of the principal Fraunhofer lines and some refractive indices.
