What happens when a lonely child with dyslexia, asthma, and an overactive imagination refuses to give up on life?
My Delusional Life: Part 1 - The Early Years is a heartfelt, humorous, and deeply reflective memoir that follows Hal M. Goldblatt, also known as "HaMaG," through the defining moments of his extraordinary early life.
Growing up in Southern California during the 1950s, 60s, and early 70s, HaMaG escaped loneliness and isolation through science fiction, music, photography, technology, and endless imagination. From building imaginary spaceships in the garage to programming early computers before most people had ever seen one, his story captures the wonder of a rapidly changing America.
Through moments of triumph and heartbreak, readers experience:
- Childhood struggles with dyslexia and severe asthma
- Adventures through Disneyland, camping trips, and cross-country travel
- Early breakthroughs in computer programming and digital music
- Encounters with cultural revolutions of the 1960s
- Stories of friendship, bullying, identity, and resilience
- Experiences with photography, theater, music, and science fiction fandom
- Service in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets during the Vietnam era
- The emotional search for belonging, purpose, and self-understanding
Written with humor, honesty, nostalgia, and imagination, this memoir blends personal storytelling with historical and cultural reflections from one of America's most transformative decades.
Perfect for readers who enjoy inspirational memoirs, coming-of-age stories, historical reflections, and unconventional life journeys, My Delusional Life is a celebration of creativity, perseverance, and finding meaning in life's chaos.
