Demand My Writing (Paperback)

Paperback. This study of the work of the feminist science-fiction writer, Joanna Russ, provides an introduction to the major feminist issues relevant to her work and assesses its development. Although the book deals principally with Russ's novels, it also examines her short stories, as well as focusing on critically neglected texts. Her work is placed in the context both of other feminist speculative fiction writers and of "traditional" science fiction, and there is an exploration of the specifically American myths that Russ's fiction uses. In this major study of the work of Joanna Russ, Jeanne Cortiel gives a clear introduction to the major feminist issues relevant to Russs work and assesses its development. The book will be especially valuable for students of SF and feminist SF, especially in its concern with the function of woman-based intertextuality.
