About this Item

Side folding newspaper, single sheet folded into four pages. An issue of this Boston newspaper, with a discussion of the character and tactics of Russian officers and soldiers, in an effort to portray expectations in their fight against France. Also discussed is the Europe coalition and war, again discussing France and the various coalitions in Europe and potential balances of power in foreseen fighting. Another lengthy piece discusses the Tripolitan treaty, and the efforts of the United States in the Mediterranean to secure the safety of its citizens in the region, including some mention of the US Navy. A column also relates the news of Captain Driggs, whose vessel was boarded by French privateers while on route from St. Thomas to the Bahamas, mentioning the privateers' conduct, looting etc. According to OCLC records, the Democrat was a Boston area newspaper featuring content by Anthony Pasquin, being the pseudonym for John Williams, a British satirist who later went on to publish the Federalist after emigrating to the United States. GOOD condition. Heavy chipping, tearing and wear along the side fold, making the piece somewhat fragile. Fold creases present. Moderate to heavy browning, a few small stains and some dampstaining present. Lower edge cropped short, resulting in sporadic minor loss of text. Bookseller Inventory # 010622
