The Demon of Shadowfall (The Shadowfall Chronicles)

When fourteen-year-old Sarah Brenner calls the police to stop her father from beating her mother, she shatters a lifetime of silence—and sets their lives on an unexpected new path. Fleeing a rigid religious community, Sarah and her mother take refuge with the family’s black sheep: the brilliant, defiant, and wholly unconventional Aunt Hannah Brenner.

Life in Hannah’s home is nothing like the one Sarah escaped. To them, the house seems to defy every rule they’ve ever lived by. Here, laughter is allowed. Questions are encouraged. Beauty isn’t a sin. Supported by a vibrant new circle of friends, Sarah begins to see herself—and her future—with new clarity.
But healing comes with its own challenges. Her mother must confront beliefs she never questioned. Sarah must decide where she stands between the faith she inherited and the freedom she’s tasting for the first time. Both of them find themselves contemplating their lives going in directions they never dreamed possible, only a short time before.
Tender, uncompromising, and deeply human, The Demon of Shadowfall is a coming-of-age story about breaking cycles, questioning inherited beliefs, and finding light in unlikely places—proof that escape is only the first step, and courage is what comes after.
