The 1716 4th edition, corrected. Octavo, 2 volumes bound in one. In the original blind tooled leather binding, gilt decorated spine with four raised bands. "A Demonstration of the Being of God" was first published in 1705 and remains one of the most famous attempts at proving the existence of God. In 1698 the author Samuel Clarke became a Chaplain to the Bishop of Norwich and in 1706 to Queen Anne. In 1704-05 he gave two sets of lectures, published as "A Demonstration of the Being and Attributes of God" (1704) and "A Discourse Concerning the Unchangeable Obligations of Natural Religion" (1705). This book represents both sets of lectures and is complete as issued. There's a bit of light wear: very mild chipping at the spine crown and chipping (15-20% loss) to the spine label, wear (light staining) at the pastedowns and the preliminaries. Still though, very solid (binding tight as could be and completely intact) and a very well-preserved, VG to VG+ copy.
