Dental Clinical Procedures using Artificial Intelligence

This book explores how artificial intelligence is reshaping diagnostic and therapeutic paradigms in contemporary dentistry and offers step-by-step guidance through real-life cases. It is divided into two main sections. The first section presents a systematic approach to AI-assisted diagnostic procedures, including anatomical assessment of the jaws, detection of caries and tooth wear, evaluation of oral lesions, and periodontal analysis. It also examines the current limitations and ethical considerations surrounding the deployment of AI in diagnostic contexts. The second section delves into AI-based digital planning tools, covering advanced techniques in tissue segmentation, orthodontic treatment planning, oral surgical simulations, and prosthetic and restorative design. Each chapter integrates theoretical foundations with clinical applications, supported by emerging research and case-based insights. Prof. Arthur Cortes DDS, MSc, PhD, FDS RCPS(Glasg) is an associate professor and coordinator of the Master of Science (MSc) course in Digital Dentistry at the University of Malta. He has edited and authored four books, including one of the best sellers in Digital Dentistry, published by Wiley-Blackwell (UK), which includes the first chapter containing the basics about Artificial Inteligence in Dentistry. He has also published more than 100 high-impact international scientific articles with over 2000 citations and several book chapters. Prof. Cortes completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Medical Radiology at Harvard Medical School, in the USA, and was awarded the fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (UK). With 20 years of clinical experience and two clinical specialty degrees (Oral Implantology and Dentomaxillofacial Radiology), he is a fellow, speaker and director of the International team of Implantologists (ITI), Prof. Cortes has lectured in more than 15 countries as a visiting professor or invited speaker, mostly about digital workflows in dentistry.
