The Department of Impossible Weather

Weather is supposed to be predictable.

Oona Quirk has never believed that.

In Barometer Bay, sunshine can be purchased, rain can be reassigned, and storms can be bottled and delivered to your door. Seventeen-year-old Oona has grown up above Quirk & Daughter Atmospheric Deliveries, surrounded by sulking thunderclouds, tins of homesick fog, and weather that has always seemed far more alive than the Department wants anyone to admit.

Then she delivers the wrong blue bottle.

Instead of a twelve-minute birthday shower, Oona unleashes a Category Seven hurricane—and seven confiscated forecasts escape into the city with it.

A fog goes searching for a forest that disappeared years ago. A blizzard refuses to let anyone see her face. Violet lightning chooses a mountain and will not be redirected. A tiny black cloud begins exposing the truths people would rather keep hidden.

And somewhere above Barometer Bay, a hurricane circles the city as if it is waiting for Oona.

Worse, it knows her name.

To save her family's failing shop and undo the disaster she caused, Oona must recover the escaped weather under the watch of Rian Pell, a painfully careful apprentice auditor who believes every catastrophe begins with someone deciding the rules do not apply to them.

But the deeper Oona looks, the less the Department's records make sense.

The escaped forecasts aren't attacking at random.

They're trying to go home.

And every trail leads toward a secret buried beneath Barometer Bay, a system that has spent decades giving some neighborhoods perfect skies by quietly forcing others to pay the price.

It may also explain what happened to Oona's mother, who disappeared into a storm seven years ago.

Now Oona must decide what matters more: a perfectly controlled world where no storm can hurt anyone again—or an uncertain one where the sky is still allowed to choose.

Because saving Barometer Bay may not mean stopping the storm.

It may mean finally listening to what the storm has been trying to say.

A sweeping, whimsical and emotionally charged fantasy adventure about impossible weather, family secrets, first love, dangerous good intentions, and the difference between keeping people safe and controlling them.
