Descriptive Geometry (Classic Reprint)

Understand how light turns shapes into plans you can read.

This nonfiction guide shows you how shading and shadows reveal depth in plan and elevation drawings, helping you communicate design clearly.

In this practical volume, you’ll learn the core ideas behind how shadows are formed, what surfaces intercept light, and how to represent those effects accurately on drawings. The approach stays grounded in descriptive geometry, focusing on solid foundations rather than quick tricks, with explanations tied to real drawing problems you’ll face in architecture and design.

• Grasp the factors that create shadows: a light source, the obstructing body, and the receiving surface.
• See how moving the light changes shadow form, and how parallel light from the sun is modeled for consistency.
• Learn to interpret and draw shadows and shading on plan and elevation, using clear construction rules.
• Explore the relationship between shadow, shade, and texture to better convey volume in drawings.

Ideal for readers who want reliable, geometry-based methods to depict light and depth in architectural sketches and technical drawings.
