A practical, hands-on plan for elementary manual training.
This book lays out a comprehensive craft curriculum that can be adapted to local resources and needs. It covers a wide range of activities—from clay plaques and plaster casting to leather work, reed basketry, and paper-based projects like portfolios and lanterns. The approach emphasizes real work done when teachers are prepared and time permits, with an eye toward making learning useful for home and community life.
The material is organized to connect classroom activities with broader educational goals. It explains how to structure projects, record effort and materials, and involve students in cooperative tasks such as making agricultural tools or birdhouses. The book also describes drawing, measurement, and design work, and it includes a detailed progression from basic toy construction to more complex projects. Throughout, it ties practical making to study in science, math, art, and vocational information, helping pupils see the value of hands-on learning.- Concrete, grade-appropriate projects: toy making, woodwork, painting, and simple leather or basketry tasks that build fine motor skills and practical knowledge.
- Step-by-step instructions for planning, sketching, wiring in materials, and finishing objects with appropriate tools and finishes.
- Methods for recording time, materials, cost, and the value of work to school and home projects.
- Guidance on drawings, proportions, and the application of basic design principles to real objects.

For this reason, we kindly ask that you double-check the title, edition, and your shipping details before placing an order.
If you change your mind after ordering, you are welcome to return the book once it arrives, and a refund will be issued in accordance with AbeBooks’ return policy.

We can provide digital samples for all our print books ahead, so don't hesitate to reach out.
Returns

If the book is damaged or defective please continue with the return process, and thank you for letting us know so that we can improve our products. If you’re returning for another reason, however, please consider whether you could donate or gift the book instead so that it avoids the waste pile.
