The Kirban Bayram holiday sees three British expatriate couples stay at a holiday home at the Nile’s Sixth Cataract. They invite a British Member of Parliament who is accompanying his wife, Helen. She is in Khartoum on a fact-finding mission into female genitalia mutilation. The holiday becomes a nightmare. Police are summoned from the capital. Should they get divers to scour the sixth cataract for the missing person? Has he committed suicide? Has he been murdered and thrown into the Nile? So many questions.Glittering parties notwithstanding, men are slaughtered on construction sites. Why? What’s the motive? Who are the perpetrators?Abdul, a member of a mafia-type family, is devoted to money and will acquire it anyway he can; always by criminal acts. The family’s homes are palatial and extravagantly furnished and although his brother and sister enjoy the kudos and wealth, they loathe him for different reasons.
