A facsimile of the manuscript written by Wells at about 12 years of age, apparently his earliest surviving work of any length. It is an amusing satire about a war between the King of Clubs and the King of Spades.Someone had removed the stitches from the King of Spades' best pants and so forced him to wear his second-best on Sunday and he blamed the King of Clubs. A battle ensued and so the story was developed in early Wellsian tradition. Earliest Wells. Original black cloth, glassine. Glassine ripped, else fine Frontispiece portrait of Wells at 12 or 13, the age when he wrote this manuscript illustrated by Wells. 1 vols.
