Desert Gods (DMB Files)

DESERT GODS (DMB Files Book Two) is for fans of Jim Butcher, The Dresden Files, Harry Dresden books, science fiction, action and adventure, and science fiction adventure..... In effort to protect his daughter, Jim Buckner plunges into the heart of the Rub' al Khali. But the closer he gets to silencing the nightmare man of his childhood, the closer he gets to his worst nightmares coming true. Evolving more terrifyingly than he can comprehend, his daughter becomes the only one who can save him. But only if he'll let her.

David Mark Brown has become known for tightly-packed plot lines and dizzying action.

First Relic and De Novo Syndrome typify this style and are great places to start reading Brown and his broader DMB universe (which also includes the Lost DMB Files and his coming dystopian series The Green Ones). Grabbing the readers by the hair, Brown drags them through hell with nary time to gulp down a breath before dragging them back.

Sinister motives brew continuously both on and off camera in a manner that casts the reader directly into the fire along with the characters. The effect creates a genuinely complex and realistic fictional world that doesn't stop spinning simply because the reader isn't looking. It also means readers look away at their own peril. One should never expect Brown to offer preferential treatment to sloppy readers. He does not.

That said, Brown's books are concise and complete and exactly as pitched--thrillers for those who expect the unexpected.
