Design Optimization through the Integration of Functional Safety: Methods and Techniques

This book focuses on the main objective of finding the best configuration or set of parameters for a given system by optimizing the design while integrating operational safety. Through in-depth case studies, it explores how this objective can be achieved by taking into account criteria such as performance, cost, durability, energy efficiency and ergonomics. The authors highlight the challenges designers face in balancing these often-conflicting criteria, and present approaches and methods for addressing them. In addition, the book examines how integrating dependability from the earliest phases of design can ensure reliable and safe system operation. Using practical case studies and tools such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and evolutionary algorithms, readers are guided through the process of optimizing design by integrating dependability.
