Rashvand and Abedi have provided straightforward solutions, design, and practical instruction on how wireless sensors systems work and how they can be applied in many new applications. In this unique and first of the kind volume of using smart sensors in form of wireless sensor network (WSN) they take some of the mystery out of RF that some system engineers use as an excuse to not consider wireless alternatives. It is refreshing to read their thorough treatment of active, passive and hybrid wireless schemes, many of whom we have heard from in our Passive Wireless Sensor Technology Workshops and Wireless for Space and Extreme Environment Conferences. We needed this comprehensive tutorial on the various aspects of wireless sensing in extreme environments to bring better educated engineers and managers into aerospace and other industries.
