Designer's Guide to Furniture Styles

This book profiles the history of the development of various furniture styles, exploring the evolution of style in the context of the architectural setting, interior design, and decorative arts of each period. It presents a complete timeline—correlating political and cultural events to the development of furniture, architecture and artistic movements—and considers the social, political, and economic factors that influenced design trends and individual taste.

Treena Crochet, Allied Member ASID, holds a Master of Arts in Art History from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts from The University of Texas at Dallas. She is sole proprietor of Creative Resources which provides educational services through consultations, public speaking, educational seminars, and publications to the interior design industry. She is the author of the Designer's Guide to Furniture Styles, Prentice Hall 1999 which is being translated into Chinese for Asian distribution. The book received recognition by the American Society of Interior Designers for educational excellence. Also, Ms. Crochet has written for Design Times magazine.

Ms. Crochet is a frequent speaker at national and international interior design industry conferences giving presentations at NeoCon World's Trade Fair in Chicago, ASID National Conferences, and Restoration & Renovation. She is an active Allied Member of the American Society of Interior Designers and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Since 1984, Ms. Crochet has taught interior design courses at colleges and universities in Massachusetts, Florida, and Texas. Currently, she is an assistant professor at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston in the department of Design and Facilities. Professor Crochet's leadership of a student volunteer group contributing to the research and documentation of endangered historical buildings for the City of Dallas earned an inclusion in the 1989 edition of Who's Who in Interior Design. Although Professor Crochet teaches a wide range of classes within the interior design discipline, her expertise is in historic preservation, architectural history, and the history of furniture.
