Excerpt from Designs for Churches and Chapels, of Various Dimensions and Styles<br/><br/>IT is a fact generally acknowledged, that there 18 not, at the present period, in this country, sufficient accommodation for the inhabitants in the Buildings erected for Religious Worship: a circumstance which demands the m0st Serious attention, if we consider the nature and importance of religion, and the effects a proper observance of its public ordinances produces on the morals and happiness of the people. The disproportion between the population, and the number of persons that the places of public worship will contain, varies in almost every parish; but in no part of the kingdom, perhaps, is this inconvenience so sensibly felt, as in the environs of the Metropolis, which may be caused by the great extent of some of the parishes, and the extraordinary increase of the population within them during the last twenty years.
