Desire and Reason: Being an Account of the Origin, and Development of Intellectual Principles (Classic Reprint)

Explore how mind, desire, and reason shape our understanding of knowledge and the divine.

This thoughtful work analyzes the origin and development of intellectual principles, guiding readers through the habits of thinking that accompany human inquiry. It blends rigorous argument with accessible reflection, inviting you to consider the links between truth, belief, and the nature of existence.

Drawing on a careful sequence of ideas, the book examines how the soul’s natural powers—desire and intelligence—drive our search for meaning, and how these forces relate to concepts of God, necessity, and the world. It presents a framework for seeing how reason operates across different levels of reality, from the natural world to the divine.

• Learn how conceptual principles arise and how they shape our interpretation of experience.
• See how the soul’s drive for truth interacts with the idea of necessity and with the notion of God.
• Understand a structured approach to thinking about motion, perception, and the nature of reality.
• Discover a method for examining intellectual questions with balance between faith and reason.

Ideal for readers of philosophy, theology, and the history of ideas who enjoy careful argument and a broad view of purpose in human inquiry.
