The Destiny

Kyle Michaels was nobody. A night-shift custodian at a city hospital, invisible by practice and by nature, a man who had spent thirty-four years learning not to be seen. Then one evening he followed a yellow line in a sub-basement corridor, and the thing waiting at the end of it took him.

That was fifteen years ago.

He has been inside the suit ever since-sealed within an incubator that moves him through time and crisis, arriving before tragedies, preventing what can be prevented, and moving on before anyone can ask who he is. He communicates in single words at significant cost. He witnesses everything. He has never been able to stay.

Until now.

The suit has returned him to the city where it took him, and for the first time in fifteen years, the pull toward the next displacement doesn't come. Something in this city is broken - a fracture in the fabric of ordinary reality, spreading through the eastern sectors, visible to anyone willing to look - and Kyle has been brought back to face it.

He is not alone.

Alma Mendoza has been building the record for twenty years. Eight years old the night of the taking, a witness behind wire-threaded glass, she watched Kyle's face in the moment before the seal was completed and has spent her life documenting what followed. Her blog has eight hundred thousand subscribers. She has been waiting for him to come back.

Detective Raymond Keene pulled the wrong thread on a routine case and found himself staring at twenty years of evidence no official framework could explain. He opened a case file under his own name and began to build toward the truth.

Maximillion Crane runs a private infrastructure company from a financial district office and monitors a city he has spent forty years trying to make legible. He has been carrying something on his left side since he was eight years old-a scar, a signal, a piece of something that has been pointing toward its source his entire life. He does not know what it is. He has always known it matters.

These four people have been approaching the same convergence from different directions. Now they are close enough to see each other.

The Destiny is a literary science fiction novel about calling and cost, about the difference between sacrifice and loss, and about what happens when the ordinary world asks everything of an ordinary man-and the ordinary man cannot perform the indifference.
