Great mechanical designs are not created by chance—they are built through sound engineering principles, accurate calculations, smart material choices, and a deep understanding of how products are manufactured.
Whether you're an engineering student, a recent graduate, a design engineer, or an experienced professional looking to sharpen your skills, mastering detailed mechanical design is one of the most valuable investments you can make in your career.
The challenge is that many engineers understand the theory but struggle to apply it effectively in real-world projects.
This book bridges that gap.
Transform Engineering Knowledge into Practical Design Expertise
Detailed Mechanical Design: A Practical Guide 2026–2027 provides a hands-on, industry-focused approach to the principles, methods, and best practices used by successful mechanical engineers every day.
Rather than focusing solely on academic theory, this guide demonstrates how engineering concepts are applied throughout the complete design process—from initial concepts and calculations to detailed drawings, manufacturing, and final production.
What You'll Learn Inside
- Engineering drawing fundamentals and professional documentation practices
- Mechanical design calculations and engineering analysis techniques
- Material selection methods for performance, reliability, and cost optimization
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles and applications
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) strategies
- Machine elements, fasteners, bearings, shafts, and component selection
- Industry standards, tolerances, and engineering best practices
- Problem-solving approaches used in real-world engineering environments
- Practical techniques for improving design quality and reducing manufacturing issues
This book helps you develop the practical competencies required in today's engineering workplace. You'll learn how to:
- Create professional engineering drawings and specifications
- Perform reliable design calculations with confidence
- Select appropriate materials based on application requirements
- Apply GD&T principles to improve manufacturability and quality
- Design components that are easier and more cost-effective to manufacture
- Identify potential design issues before production begins
- Communicate technical information effectively with manufacturing teams
Why This Book Stands Out
Many engineering resources focus heavily on theory while providing little guidance on practical implementation. This guide combines engineering fundamentals, detailed design methods, and real-world manufacturing considerations to create a comprehensive learning experience.
The result is a practical reference that can be used throughout your education and professional career.
Whether you're designing machine components, industrial equipment, consumer products, or mechanical systems, the principles presented in this book will help you make better engineering decisions with greater confidence.
From Classroom Concepts to Real-World Engineering Success
Mechanical design remains one of the most in-demand and rewarding engineering disciplines. Engineers who can successfully transform ideas into reliable, manufacturable products are highly valued across industries.
If you're ready to strengthen your technical skills, improve your design capabilities, and gain a deeper understanding of modern mechanical engineering practices, this book provides the roadmap you need.
Get your copy today and start mastering the engineering drawings, design calculations, material selection techniques, GD&T principles, and manufacturing strategies that turn great ideas into successful products."Synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
