This was probably the best - and certainly the most widly used - heliometer erver made. With it, and in cooperation with a number of northern observatories, he determined the solar parallax by systematic observations of three minor planets, Iris, Victoria, an Shappo. The value he deduced (8.80 arc seconds) was used in the computations of all almanacs until 1968, when it was replaced by 8,794 arc seconds derived by radar echos methods and by observations of Mariner space probes."
