Developing Leaders for Urban Ministries : Second Printing

Designing curricula to train Christian leaders for ministries in urban areas requires careful attention to the context, the kinds of ministries to be done and the people who are to be developed. This book treats the issue of contextualizing leadership development, drawing upon literature about urban studies, missiology, case studies for training leaders and curriculum theory. Principles for the development of leaders in urban ministries are described in ways that apply to a range of circumstances, from small groups to multiple-staffed congregations or agencies. It may be used profitably in both church-based equipping programs and formal educational settings.

The Authors: Edgar J. Elliston is Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Hope International University. He received his B.A. from Manhattan Christian College, his M.A. from Fuller Theological Seminary, and his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Michigan State University. In addition to numerous articles and writing about leadership development in three other languages, one recent award-winning book was Christian Relief and Development: Developing Workers for Effective Ministry.
For seventeen years J. Timothy Kauffman was a pastor, including eight years in West Berlin, and four years in Frankfurt, Germany, where he also mentored young German pastors. In 1996, he earned his Ph.D. in Inter-Cultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary. He currently teaches leadership and urban studies part-time at Azusa Pacific University's Haggard Graduate School of Theology. As the executive director of WOURLD-Project (Worldwide Organization for Urban Resources and Leadership Development), he is active as an author, a lecturer, and a consultant to urban churches and educational institutions in the United States and around the world.
