Howard Manns is a Senior Lecturer in Linguistics at Monash University, Australia, where he studies language and society in Australia and Indonesia. He has an extensive professional background in applied linguistics, including work as a Persian (Farsi) linguist for the US Navy, and as an English teacher in Indonesia. His research areas include Australian and world Englishes, intercultural communication and colloquial Indonesian.
Zhichang Xu is an Associate Professor in Linguistics at Monash University, Australia. He has a disciplinary background in applied linguistics and intercultural education. He has extensive teaching and research experiences in Beijing, Perth, Hong Kong, and Melbourne. His research areas include world Englishes, English as a lingua franca (ELF), cultural linguistics, translation and interpreting studies.
