The wraps are in good condition (slightly curled corner, a few spots). 11 x 8 ½, 77 pages, 8 ounces XX [From the Introduction] SABINE PASS STATE PARK. On September 8, 1863, a handful of Confederate artillerymen, led by Dick Dowling, turned back an armada of 11 Union warships at the mouth of Sabine Pass in Texas. Although little known, this significant Civil War conflict is sometimes referred to as the Thermopylae of the Civil War. Located on the southern shore, approximately three miles above where the river converges with the Gulf of Mexico, the site reflects an integral part of Texas history as well as offers valuable access to Gulf-oriented recreation.
